Life in Prison After a Fatal DWI Accident in Texas

On Friday, October 4th in San Antonio, TX a man (A.N.) was sentenced for a fatal crash involving alcohol that occurred on Labor Day Weekend in 2011. A.N. has repeatedly apologized for the accident and has made it known that he would never purposefully hurt another person. Generally, this type of offense would involve an intoxication manslaughter charge with a prison sentence of up to 20 years. A.N. however, has three prior drunk driving convictions in Texas before this incident. This would make the case a fourth DWI offense as well as a DWI causing death. After running a red light and hitting another car, A.N., as well as the driver of the other car, were taken to the hospital. After a blood test was performed on A.N., there was evidence of cocaine as well as a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) level of .246. This is more than three times the legal limit of .08 in Texas.

The prosecutors on the case were fighting to order the maximum penalty of life in prison for A.N. The DWI defense attorneys on the case were fighting for reduced charges. The verdict on the case resulted in life in prison with the possibility for parole after serving 30 years in prison.
